Know Cáceres

The significant heritage value, cultural, historical and artistic heritage of Cáceres has been recognized through various awards and premiums which are: World Heritage City by UNESCO and the Third European Monumental. Cáceres is integrated in tourism networks as the Group of World Heritage Cities of Spain and the Network of Jewish Quarters in Spain "Sefarad". Extremadura was declared Cultural Capital in 1992.

Monumental City Cáceres easily transports us to times past. TOURIST INFORMATION CENTERS:

House of Moraga. Permanent Exhibition Handicraft Extremadura.

Visual Arts Center Helga de Alvear. Foundation with the proposals more contemporary and innovative art.

Promotion Center about Holy Week in Cáceres. It meet the Easter Cacereña, declared International Tourist Interest.

Interpretation Centre "Cáceres el Viejo". Located at the site of the old Roman camp Castra Caecilia.

Interpretation Centre Maltravieso Cave. Significant traces of Paleolithic art. His delicate condition prevents it from being accessed, so that in 1999 establishing the Centre.

Interpretive Center of Mining in Extremadura. The recovery of the mine of Abundancia allows to know how the mining sector influenced the development of Cáceres

Interpretation Centre Tower and Tower Bujaco Pulpits. Located in one of the most significant towers in the city, allows to know the different civilizations that left their mark in Cáceres. At the top of the Tower of Bujaco is a unique viewpoint. Walking along the wall can also be accessed at the Tower of Pulpits.

Interpretation Centre "Baluarte de los Pozos". Through a typical house of the Jewish Quarter can reach the Torre de los Pozos, example of Almohad fortress. As a prelude to the Tower has been restored a garden ideal for holding cultural activities. Inside the Center presents models that reproduce the architecture of the city.

MUSEUMS:

Museum Yusuf Al Burch. Reproduction of a typical home during the Arab period.

Museum of Weapons. Located inside the Palacio de las Cigüeñas.

Caceres Museum. Located on the site of the old Arab fortress, preserved inside a spectacular cistern. The Museum, opened in 1933, is the home to archaeological remains from prehistoric times to the Visigoth period, ethnography section and fine arts section.

Museum of History and Culture Casa Pedrilla and Guayasamín Foundation. Museum unveils the history of the city of XIX and XX century. Guayasamín Foundation, welcomes the renowned Ecuadorian painter works and samples of pre-Columbian and Colonial Art.

Cathedral Museum. Located in the sacristy of the Cathedral of Santa Maria, contains pieces of gold, silver and textile

Museum of Outdoor Sculpture. Located in the Parque del Principe is a collection of 27 sculptures by contemporary artists

Museum Municipal "Ciudad de Cáceres". Myron located in the building, contains part of the local cultural heritage, with works of gold, historical documents, paintings, drawings, posters, old photographs ...

Vostell Museum – Malpartida. Located in the Natural Monument of Los Barruecos, was established in 1976 by Wolf Vostell hispanoalemán artist, father and founder of the Fluxus Happening. It is considered as a union of art and nature

FESTIVALS:

Pilgrimage of San Fabian and San Sebastian. It's a party - traditional procession held on 20th January in the Chapel of the Holy Martyrs, in Paseo Alto.

Candelas and San Blas. 2nd and 3rd February. It is one of the most traditional of Cáceres, and going back to 1561.

Easter. Declared of International Tourist Interest, its originality is that most of its Monumental procession throughout the city, bringing the beauty of parades joins the incomparable on the pass.

St. George, Patron Saint of Cáceres. Begins 22th April with the parade of Moors and Christians and burning of the dragon in the Plaza Mayor, where staged the reconquest of the city. The party goes on 23.

Virgen de la Montaña. The landlady was transferred from her shrine to the Cathedral of Santa Maria ten days before the first Sunday of May.

CULTURAL FESTIVALS AND OTHER EVENTS:

Latin American Art Fair "Foro Sur". Second fair most important contemporary art in Spain.

Womad Festival. It has been held since 1992. It is known worldwide as the largest gathering of music, art and dance in the world.

Early Music Festival. Spain Music and Latin America in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Medieval Market in Three Cultures. Medieval market in an incomparable setting.

Classical Theatre Festival Cáceres. Outdoor Theater, in the Monumental City or inside the Grand Theatre.
